Registration is open NOW through AUGUST 31.

This year, it is imperative all players are registered by August 31. The District requires all team rosters to be finalized/submitted in early September. Late entries after the August 31 deadline will go up $100 and are subject to Board review.

As in past years, you will be required to register/pay with USA Hockey prior to completing the Windom registration (not high school players).

Neck Guards Mandatory August 1, 2024

Make sure to procure your player a neck guard prior to the start of the season. Neck guards will be required effective August 1, 2024 and must be worn during all games and practices.

St. Paul, MN – January 28th, 2024 – At its Winter meetings today in Orlando, FL, the USA Hockey Congress approved legislation that will require the use of neck laceration protection (neck guards) for players in all age classifications, other than adults, as well as for all on-ice officials under the age of 18. Neck guards will be required effective August 1, 2024 and must be worn during all games and practices. Minnesota Hockey, as an affiliate member of USA Hockey, adheres to the rules and regulations as put forth by USA Hockey. Today’s rule change will apply to all of Minnesota Hockey’s (13) Districts and (130) plus member Associations.

USA Hockey has long recommended the use of neck laceration protection as well as cut resistant protection for other vulnerable areas of the body. In November 2023, the USA Hockey Safety and Protective Equipment Committee, at the request of the USA Hockey Board of Directors, began looking at potential rule modifications specifically related to neck laceration protection. The work of this committee and their overall evaluation was instrumental in forming the rule changes adopted today during USA Hockey’s Congress.

“The safety of our members has always been paramount and will remain at the forefront of our efforts now and into the future,” said MN Hockey President Steve Oleheiser. “We will continue to work closely with all relevant stakeholders close to and affected by this rule adoption as we work through its implementation as a mandatory equipment item.”

An official USA Hockey statement regarding this change may be found on the USA Hockey website here.

JV/Varsity Game - Player Entrance Protocol

During all JV and Varsity Games there should be very minimal use of the Player Entrance/Locker Room Area by non-varsity players. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should any parents be in the player hallway/entrance area during or after ANY JV/Varsity Games. The restrooms in the player hallway are for players and coaches only, everyone else should use the restrooms in the main commons area located to the west of the concession stand. Everyone should use the Arena Main Entrance Doors during JV/Varsity Games. Players and Coaches are prepping for games and everyone else needs to respect that.

Some youth teams will have practice during JV/Varsity Games and understandably they may need to use the locker rooms in the Player Area. In these instances we ask that those players promptly change and go to the back ice however they should avoid the hallway entering the rink while the JV/Varsity players are getting ready for games or are in-between periods. Players that do not have practices during JV/Varsity games are to STAY OUT of the Player Hallway.

All parents should be entering and exiting the Windom Arena through the Main Entrance Doors in the center of the building. For non-game days, if your player is assigned a locker room in the West Player Entrance Wing, your player may enter through those doors however you should proceed through the Main Entrance. If your player needs help tying their skates they can meet you in the rink area by the Donor Wall.

The Dryland Room is for Registered Windom Area Hockey Players only and non-players will be asked to leave that area. The Dryland Room will close 45 minutes to an hour prior to all JV/Varsity Games and will remain closed throughout the game.

    WYHA Weather Policy

    WYHA WEATHER POLICY

WYHA’s stance on bad weather accounts for parents to make an ultimate decision on behalf of the child. Windom Arena typically does not close due to poor weather, therefore WYHA does not cancel practice on poor weather days, even if school is called. However, any practices being held on days school is let out due to weather are considered “optional”, yet coaches will attend the practice time for anyone wishing to attend. Players missing such practices will NOT be subject to any team rule sanctions.

In the case of school cancellations, all non-district games will automatically be cancelled. In the case of district games, teams must follow the District 4 policy, which calls for both teams agreeing to cancel a game before it can be cancelled.
